Buganda Road Court Chief Magistrate James Eremye Mawanda has released on bail Dr. Stella Nyanzi, the Makerere University Research Fellow accused of insulting the president.
The magistrate says he has granted Nyanzi temporary freedom to enable her access to her personal files so she can ably respond to the state’s application to examine her sanity.
He has ordered her to sign a non-court bond of ten million shilling and her sureties to execute a ten million shilling bond to ensure that the accused returns to court on the 25th/May 2017.
Nyanzi has also been ordered to deposit her passport with court and she is forbidden from discussing and writing about this on-going court case.
On the 25th/May 2017, Nyanzi’s defence team led by Nicholas Opio will submit before court why their client should not be subjected to a mental status examination because she is absolutely normal.
Nyanzi who faces charges of cyber harassment contrary and offensive communication contrary to the Computer Misuse Act 2011 has been on remand for over a month.
