Former Uganda Vice President, Dr. Specioza Wandira Kazibwe has been appointed to the panel of the Wise of African Union.
Dr. Kazibwe’s appointment was announced at the 14th meeting of the panel, which is one of the pillars of the African Peace and Security Architecture as provided for in the Protocol Relating to the Establishment of the Peace and Security Council of the AU.
The five-man panel also includes Dr. Lakhdar Brahimi from Algeria (representing North Africa), Edem Kodjo from Togo (representing West Africa) and Dr. Albina Faria from Angola (representing Central Africa).
During the meeting, the AU Commissioner for Peace and Security, Ambassador Smail Chergui tasked the new panel to support the Union on its quest for peace, stability and development for all peoples of Africa.
Chergui also emphasized the panel should continue to facilitate the AU’s role in championing conflict resolution mechanisms.
