Democratic Party Members of Parliament are set to move emotion in the house to mark March 1st, the day when the first black prime minister got the authority to rule over Uganda.

As a result of the September 1961 Uganda Constitutional Conference held in London, Uganda achieved internal self-government on March 1, 1962 and Benedict Kiwanuka became Uganda’s first Prime Minister in the new National Assembly.

Speaking to kfm, the Member of Parliament for Kawempe North Latif Ssebagala says they intend to compel other members to concur with the motion to honor this day nationwide.

He explains that it’s not prudent to celebrate independence and forget a man who spearheaded the process.
