Another political party has shunned the city mayoral race.
The Democratic Party is has vowed not take part in the forthcoming mayoral by-election.
The Party president Norbert Mao has told a news conference this morning that the election is ill-intentioned and meant to destabilize the political environment.
This is after the Electoral Commission announced that the controversial by-election is to be held on April 17th.
Mao says they now plan to hold a meeting with the embattled Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago’s legal team and later with all political party leaders to come up with a common position on the matter.
He explained that such illegalities exhibited in the management of Kampala Capital City Authority affairs must be handled jointly by all political players in Kampala.
Yesterday, the opposition Forum for Democratic Change announced that it would not field a candidate for the mayoral race. The Uganda People’s Congress also followed suit this morning, while Kampala Members of Parliament too, led by Kawempe North representative Latiff Ssebaggala have also distanced themselves from the exercise which the have described as illegal.
