The opposition Democratic Party has said it is to petition the speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga to pass a resolution to have a commission of inquiry instituted to investigate the state of different military bases and detention centers in the country including Nalufenya prison, chieftaincy of Military intelligence in Mbuya and the special Investigations Unit in Kireka so that security personnel that torture suspects are brought to book.
Addressing the media at the party headquarters, the national publicity secretary Kenneth Kakande says much as the parliamentary human rights committee inspected Nalufenya, its findings are insufficient to address the problem of torture in the country.
Kakande says this commission of inquiry should among other things find out how much the government spends on training the people who torture Ugandans in these facilities.
Today, the parliamentary Human rights committee is expected to present its findings from the visit to Nalufenya.
