A group of Civil Society Organisations has demanded that the finance ministry publishes a pre-election economic and fiscal update.
The coordinator of the Civil Society Budget Advocacy Group Julius Mukunda says according to section 19 of the Public Finance Management Act, the minister of finance is required to publish a pre- economic and fiscal update on election financing, at least four months before polling date.
He says they are dismayed that with less than two months to the 2016 general elections, the country has not received such an update and there are no indications that such a report will be tabled soon before parliament.
The group is concerned that if the report is not released, there will be no independent government institution to assess its authenticity and analyse its quality, which would ultimately create loopholes for the misuse of taxpayers money to fund elections.
The group was on Sunday morning giving an overview of performance of different sectors throughout the year.
