High Court Justice Musa Ssekaana on Friday ordered the immediate arrest and imprisonment of Isaac Ssemakadde, the President of the Uganda Law Society, for two years.
This ruling follows an application filed by Mugisha Hashim, alleging that Ssemakadde’s public remarks on social media violated judicial principles and amounted to contempt of court.
Ssemakadde’s comments, posted on his social media account, targeted Justice Ssekaana and the judicial system. Mugisha argued that these comments were not only disrespectful but also undermined the court’s authority.
Justice Ssekaana emphasized the importance of maintaining the dignity of the judiciary, noting that Ssemakadde’s position as an experienced lawyer and President of the Uganda Law Society demands a higher level of responsibility.
The two-year custodial sentence is intended to send a strong message to others who might consider undermining the authority of the judiciary.
This development comes after Ssemakadde accused Justice Ssekaana of judicial misconduct and called for a boycott of the judge.
