The Buganda Road Magistrates Court will decide on Monday whether to issue an arrest warrant for Isaac Kimaze Ssemakadde, president of the Uganda Law Society.
Two lawyers, Tonny Tumukunde and Joshua Byamazima, requested the warrant after Ssemakadde failed to appear in court to face charges of insulting the modesty of a woman, specifically the Director of Public Prosecutions, Justice Jane Frances Abodo.
The charges stem from derogatory comments Ssemakadde allegedly made about Justice Abodo during a symposium on November 18, 2024. These comments were widely shared on social media, leading to a private prosecution against Ssemakadde in December 2024.
Ssemakadde’s lawyers are objecting to the warrant, arguing that their client is effectively present in court through their representation.
Chief Magistrate Ronald Kayizzi is expected to deliver the ruling online on Monday. If issued, the warrant would be a significant development in the case against Ssemakadde.
