The Supreme Court has has accepted the amended petition filed by lawyers representing former premier Amama Mbabazi during the pre-hearing session this afternoon.
The same court set March 14th as the date to commence hearing of the petition challenging President Yoweri Museveni’s re-election.
While delivering a ruling on the amended petition, one of the 9 judges Justice Eldad Mwangushya said the decision was taken basing on the unique nature of the petition.
The judge has ordered both parties to return to court on Thursday March 10th for resumption of the pre-hearing session.
The petitioners have also been ordered to serve all the respondents with the amended petition before close of business today.
Meanwhile the respondents are required to respond to the amended petition by March 13th.
The amended petition raises fundamental issues that include demands that the Electoral Commission shares copies of the declaration of results forms and a recount of votes cast in at least 30 districts where Mbabazi claims his votes were swapped with Museveni’s.
Mbabazi’s lawyer Severino Twinobusingye has welcomed court’s decision saying they are ready to comply.
