Consumer rights activists have hailed government for banning free call promotions by telecom companies.
Last week the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) ordered telecom companies to stop registering new subscribers for the ongoing free call promotions, blaming it for network failures.
Although the telecom players dismissed the claim saying network failure is mainly caused by vandalism, the Uganda Consumers’ Action Network says the UCC has finally realized that the Ugandan consumers are being cheated through these promotions.
According to Dan Marlone the group’s coordinator, UCC should continue to crack the whip on the telecom companies to ensure quality service.
