Uganda could face a condom shortage following revelations by the National Drug Authority that it lacks personnel to test over 200 million condoms.
The authority’s Executive Director, Dr. Gordon Sematiko told MPs on the Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises that they lack at least 15 staff to man the condom unit.
Sematiko says testing condoms requires utmost attention and adequate manpower to clear the stock before the next consignment arrives.
He says the authority has requested for funds to recruit more staff, warning that with the festive season less than two months away, the demand for condoms is expected to rise hence need to avert any shortages.
