The leadership of the Cooperative Movement in Uganda has asked the government to enact a single law that will govern operations of SACCOs and other small money-leading institutions.
The General Secretary for the Uganda Cooperative Alliance Ivan Asiimwe, says it is through transformation of cooperatives that the government will be able to alleviate poverty and significantly improve household income.
‘’ We have strong cooperative which have the capacity to establish an own a bank, talk about Wazalendo sacco, parliamentarian Sacco and many more , now we need a bank which will listen to concern of cooperative.’’ Mr. Asiimwe stated.
He made the remarks, at a consultative meeting seeking views of various stakeholders on creation revival of National Cooperative Bank to help farmers access cheap credit.
