Business at the Uganda-Kenya border yet to normalize

By Ssebuliba Samuel:

Days after Kenya’s electoral body declared Uhuru Kenyatta winner of last Tuesday’s presidential election, business at the Uganda- Kenya border is yet to normalize.

Incumbent Uhuru Kenyatta won the vote with 54.27% against his main rival Raila Odinga who got 44.74%.

Speaking to Kfm, the Bukedi region police spokesperson Soweli Kamulya said that business at the border is yet to pick up.

In the run up to the election, there were fears of full scale violence, which was further exacerbated by pronouncements made by Raila Odinga’s camp that they would reject outright the outcome of the election.

Kamulya says the volume of traffic entering and leaving Uganda is still low, with a few buses and private vehicles crossing the border.

He has however said that security remains tight on the Ugandan side.
