Burundi Refugees to Uganda Double

admin | May 25, 2015

The number of Burundian refugees flocking the country is growing by the day, with the latest figure standing at 250 people entering the country per day, according to police.

Currently 2,490 people are in Nakivale refugee camp, while others are still being received.

Speaking to media today, the police spokesperson Fred Enanga said that many refugees are entering through Mutukula and Kikagati boarder points.

The Burundian refugees are fleeing their country over the growing unrest sparked by protests against President Pierre Nkurunziza’s bid for a third term.

According to the Red Cross at least 20 people have died since the protests broke out last month.
