Discussion on the Burundi crisis has been taken to Kyankwanzi where the NRM cadres are currently holding a 10-day retreat.
President Yoweri Museveni the chief mediator on the Burundi peace talks, has received a briefing on the progress of the negotiations from former Tanzanian president Benjamin Mkapa.
The two leaders met yesterday at State lodge Kyankwanzi in Kyankwanzi district.
Mkapa was mandated during the recent East African Community Heads of State Summit in Arusha to act as a facilitator of the peace talks. In that capacity he reports to President Museveni the chief mediator.
It is however not yet clear what came out of the closed door meeting.
The crisis in Burundi that has claimed hundreds of people while others have been forced to flee to neighboring countries broke out in April last year following protests against president Pierre Nkurunziza’s third term bid.
