The three Bulgarians convicted on several counts of forgery have had their 20 year sentence cut to 9.
The Bulgarians had appealed to the High Court arguing that Buganda Road Court Magistrate, Julius Borore was wrong and biased in sentencing the convicts to 20 years imprisonment while basing on unsatisfactory evidence.
Now High Court Judge Justice Rugadya Atwooki has cut the sentence saying the 20 years were meant to run concurrently not consecutively.
He has however ordered their immediate deportation after serving the sentence.
Justice Rugadya has also acquitted one of the convicts Ivan Ganchev who had been given 5 years in jail saying he had only been in the country for 2 days when he was arrested.
The Bulgarians are said to have forged Stanbic Bank ATM cards and gained access to people’s accounts withdrawing money unlawfully.
