Residents at Bulando Parish in Bukoto East in Masaka district have raised concern over increasing cases of murder and robberies in their area.
The residents have raised their concern during a meeting held at Bulando village in Buwunga Sub County called by Bukoto East Member of Parliament Hon. Florence Namayanja.
Residents led by Kaijja Village Chairperson, Edward Kisekka Muyanja say that people in Bulando parish area no longer moving at night for fear of being attacked and murdered by assailants.
He says that a big number of families are now sharing their houses with animals because whenever they are left outside they are stolen while other are slaughtered and meat taken by thieves.
Locals have however, blamed police of not doing enough to help them in controlling the increasing crime rate in their area.
Hon Florence Namayanja, says that it’s worrying that Police which is supposed to keep people with their property has failed to do its duty of manning security in the district.
She says that she has given police an ultimatum of 3 days to re arrest all suspects that have been released in connection with various crimes because they have become a menace to the community.
However, Noah Sserunjogi, the Southern Region Police Spokesperson, has dismissed the claims that Police solicits bribes from suspects and release them without taking them to court.
