Police at Butenga in Bukomansimbi district are holding a crime preventer for allegedly stealing coffee beans from a residents’ plantation.
John Kawooya a resident of Butanga village, in Butenga Sub County has been arrested for stealing coffee beans from Isma Matovu’s coffee garden.
Kawooya was arrested by a sniffer dog that led police to his home where suspected coffee beans have been recovered.
According to Matovu people have been stealing his coffee which prompted him to seek services of a sniffer dog from Butenga police station that led to the arrest of Kawooya.
Ben Osiede the officer in charge of criminal investigations at Butenga police has confirmed Kawooya’s arrest saying that he will be charged with theft when police investigations are completed.
He has however, condemned Kawooya’s actions saying that it’s worrying that Kawooya who is supposed to help police to fight crime he is involved in criminal activities.
Police spokesperson Asan Kasingye while traversing Masaka region recently warned police against crime preventers that are involved in criminal activities saying that such people should be suspended since they tarnish the image of the force.
