Buganda Disowns Nabagereka Primary School

Reporter | May 7, 2015

The Buganda Land Board has distanced itself from the Nabagereka Primary School land wrangles.

The school was recently demolished by a private developer to reportedly boost investment.

According to the board, the controversial land belonged to central government before government returned some properties to Buganda, and during that period, the Uganda land commission leased it out for investment for 99 years

However, when it was given to Buganda the lease contract was just regularized.

Appearing before parliamentary select committee probing land grabbing in Kampala, the chairman Buganda land board Martin kasekende said that Buganda had no hand in the original give away, since this land belonged to central government.

He explained that the original Nabagereka primary school is operating in Lubiri, because the demolished school was temporarily constructed to handle children when Obote attacked the lubiri in late 60s
