Grief and shock engulfed Odwarat village, Ngora Sub County in Ngora district after a primary three pupil, 11 years old was found hanging on a tree branch after reportedly committing suicide.
A postmortem carried out at the government’s health facility in Ngora by senior clinical officer, Mr. Stephen Ocimwa confirmed the late Iisa Michael, a pupil of Ngora boys’ school had hanged himself.
Several people in the neighborhood suspected the boy had been strangled by his father and probably just hanged the body on the tree and were preparing to lynch him.
The deceased‘s father, one Iisa Michael, a boda boda cyclist had allegedly earlier in the week threatened to punish the boy for refusing to graze the cattle.
The victim’s father who has since separated with the mother of the boy on his part denied subjecting his son to any mistreatment.
Ngora District Police Commander (DPC), Mr. Didio Omoding said the suicide is most shocking of all as those reported to police in the past never involved victims as young as that age.
He said since the beginning of this year, ten people have been reported to have committed suicide by hanging themselves.
