Locals at Lukaya Town council in Kalungu district have recovered a bomb abandoned near Uganda Cares building.
The bomb was recovered by a passerby after seeing a box abandoned near a betting house at the building reporting the matter to police that responded by calling the anti-bomb unit at Burakati military detach in Lukaya, Kalungu district.
According to the Kasijagirwa Armored Brigade Barracks spokesperson, Major Robert Kamara the anti-bomb squad from the Lukaya Detach reached in time and secured the area removing the bomb taking it to the barracks.
He says that they have called a team from Kampala to come and a certain what type of bomb and its dangers.
He says that they will detonate the bomb after the team from Kampala examines the recovered bomb.
Kamara has however, warned members of the community to always be cautious adding that they should reports any suspicious material they come across because such items can be dangerous in case they explode.
Kalungu Resident District Commissioner, Shafic Ssekandi, says that they have always warned owners of the building that houses the betting house where the bomb was abandoned to increase on the security at building but they have not been taking them serious.
Ssekandi says that he has ordered police to step up the security of the building as investigations into the matter goes on.
