The executive director of the National Coalition of Human Rights Defenders Uganda, Robert Kirenga says opposition candidates challenging poll results are free to use their election observation report as evidence in courts of law.

This comes days after the opposition National Unity Platform presidential flag bearer Robert Kyagulanyi filed an election petition challenging the victory of NRM’s Yoweri Museveni citing a lot of irregularities and malpractice that reportedly marred the whole election process.

Kirenga says although human rights observers compiled a variety of election irregularities in the just concluded polls, by law, human rights defenders are not allowed to support any political party or candidate in whatever political engagement but the complainants are allowed to quote their information to back up their case files.
