The leader of the People’s Front for Transition, Rtd Col Dr. Kizza Besigye has criticised the promotion of President Museveni’s son, Muhoozi Kainerugaba to the highest rank in the army.
President Museveni yesterday dropped Muhoozi from the position of Commander of the Land Forces but promoted him from Lieutenant General to a full General.
He also remains the presidential advisor on special operations. Muhoozi has been replaced Maj. Gen. Kayanja Muhanga, the current Commander of Operation Shuuja in the Democratic Republic of Congo who has also been promoted to Lieutenant General.
Speaking to KFM, Besigye said ordinarily, Muhoozi should not have been promoted, adding that he ought to have been arraigned in the court martial for the reckless remarks he has been making while serving the army.
“There’s a suggestion that maybe he is relieved of his role in command because of what he has been saying with regard to Kenya, Russia, and other kinds of outrageous things but if that was the case he would be facing the court-martial,” Besigye told KFM.
According to Besigye, his promotion demonstrates that the UPDF has no standing order and law while explaining that it has been captured by the president.
