The Pan African Parliament has criticized the African Union Commission for disregarding requirements of the Protocol in the consideration and approval of the African Union Budget.
The Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Erastus Mwencha, presented the 2014 African Union Budget to the plenary sitting of the Pan African Parliament in Midrand, South Africa.
However, members were not amused that the budget had been approved without input or changes from the Parliament.
The Ugandan head of delegation, Cecilia Ogwal says it makes no meaning for the Parliament not to be involved in the budget process yet they have an oversight role to monitor its implementation.
Other legislators brushed off the budget as lacking expected revenues, expenditures and programmes budgeted for in the last financial year.
