The Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission for Somalia, Ambassador Francisco Madeira has commended the courage and bravery of AMISOM troops, who were targeted in an attack in Goryowein, Lower Shabelle region over the weekend.

The ambush left 12 UPDF soldiers killed and seven others injured.

Ambassador Madeira has reiterated AMISOM’s continued commitment to the cause for peace in Somalia, noting that such attacks will not derail efforts to rid Somalia of the blood thirsty terrorists.

He has conveyed his condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers, the people and government of Uganda noting that the country’s sacrifice and commitment to the cause for peace in Somalia is recognised and most appreciated by the continental Organization and by the African Union.
