By Damali Mukhaye.

Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago through his deputy Sarah Kanyike has written to the deputy Attorney General Mwesigwa Rukutana, seeking for an update on his demand for Shs 560m in salary arrears.

In a letter dated 15th August 2017, Kanyike asks why the matter has taken long to be resolved as earlier directed by Prime Minister, Dr Ruhakana Rugunda.

She has reminded Rukutana that  in the KCCA budgets for financial years 2016/17 and 2017/18, provisions had been made to cater for the Lord Mayor’s salary arrears but the payment could not be processed because the select committee which he heads has not resolved the matter.

She has requested the deputy attorney general to resume this engagement with emphasis on discussing and concluding the matter amicably.

On June 14th, the KCCA executive director, Jennifer Musisi filed an affidavit on challenging Lukwago’s application to have his emoluments paid on grounds that he was not presently entitled to any payment whatsoever.
