The death of Gen Aronda Nyakairima will not depress his fellow army representatives, this according to one of them Julius Oketa.
Speaking to KFM Gen Oketa said the death of Gen Aronda was shocking but will only serve to strengthen their resolve.
“Those remaining have a duty to ensure they accomplish the work he started”, Oketa said.
Gen Aronda died on Saturday in Dubai on his way from South Korea and arrangements are underway to have his body returned.
Relatedly, the Uganda Police has also mourned the death of Gen Aronda Nyakairima who was the Internal Affairs Minister.
According to the Inspector general of police Gen Kale Kayihura Nyakayirima was a brave man who cannot easily be replaced.
Kayihura said the news of his death shocked them very much because they did not know that he had some illnesses.
Makerere University catholic students too have eulogized the fallen General in a special mass held on Sunday morning at St Augustine Chapel.
Many of them who spoke to KFM said that as a young generation, they were saddened that someone from whom they drew inspiration has departed.
Meanwhile, the Chaplain Makerere University St Catholic Community Center Fr. Josephat Ddungu has described Nyakairima as a strong and disciplined army officer who served with passion and humility.
He said that Uganda had lost one of the strong pillars in the military but his achievements will always be celebrated.
Leaders in Masaka district are also mourning the demise of General Aronda Nyakairima.
The late Aronda worked in Masaka as commandant of the Armoured Brigade in 1996 before he was transferred to northern Uganda in 2002 to command Operation Iron First against the Lord’s Resistance Army rebels.
Maj Robert Kamara , the spokesperson Masaka Armoured Brigade says that while in Masaka , Gen Aronda helped expand the tank regiment to armoured brigade with various regiments.
Maj Kamara adds that during his time in Masaka, the late Aronda also created a strong civilian/army relationship that has been maintained that date.
While Florence Namayanja, the Member of Parliament for Bukoto East describes the late Aronda was an intellectual, full of humour, respectful and a great listener.
