Anti – Riot police fire live bullets at Jamil Mukulu trial

admin | August 11, 2015

Anti-Riot Police have fired live and teargas to disperse members of rival muslim factions who had started a fight at the Court premises in Jinja.

The rival groups were at the court to follow proceedings of a case in which a group of 22 people believed to be accomplices of the leader of the rebel Allied Democratic Forces, Sheikh Jamil Mukulu, are answering charges of murder and terrorism.

The charges are connected to the Christmas Day killing of the leader of the Shia Muslim Sect in Uganda, Sheikh Abdul Kadhir Muwaya.

Jinja District Police Commander, Apollo Kateeba says the trouble began when members of the Shia sect allegedly made derogatory statements about the Tabliqs.

Kateeba says two members of the Shia sect have been arrested following the fracas.

Meanwhile, journalists have once again been barred from accessing the premises as the 22 once again appeared in court.
