Anti-graft activists want longer term for Kashaka

Reporter | July 27, 2014

Anti-corruption activists want jailed Former Local Government Permanent Secretary John Muhanguzi Kashaka to return the swindled 4 billion shillings.

Last week court handed Kashaka a ten year-jail term for abusing taxpayers’ money worth 4 billion shillings meant to purchase bicycles for local Council officials.

A coalition of NGO’s including the Uganda Debt Network, Transparency International and Anti-Corruption Coalition Uganda say the ten 10-year jail sentence is too lenient.

The Uganda Debt Network Programs Director Julius Kapwepwe says the public will feel that justice is done if the money is returned.
