Another police officer has died following yesterday’s attack on a police station in Kapchorwa district, bringing the death toll to two.
Police Constable Steven Lubega died at Mbale Referral Hospital where he was transferred after sustaining serious injuries in the attack.
Yesterday a gang of criminals suspected to be operating in the Mt. Elgon Forest area attacked Kapchorwa Police station, and set free their colleague, John Chemusaka who was in the police cells.
Police Constable Hakim Kaddu was shot dead in the ensuing exchange of fire.
According to the police spokesperson, Fred Enanga, other police officers are still in critical condition.
Some of those injured include Inspector of Police Musumba Jeremiah, who took a shot to the right thigh, and Police Constable Junior Rukundo, who was hit by a bullet fragment to the chest.
