The 23rd annual judges’ conference opens in Kampala this morning.
According to Justice Mike Chibita, the Chairperson of the organizing committee, the Judges’ conference which will also mark the beginning of the new law year, shall be officiated by President Museveni at the Judiciary headquarters in Kampala.
He also revealed that the judiciary is to spend up to Shs800m to cater for the nearly 300 guests during the four-day conference that runs from Monday, January 31st to February 3rd.
Chibita added that for the duration of the conference, there will be no hearing of cases in the three courts; High Court, Court of Appeal/Constitutional Court, and Supreme Court but registries will be open for only filing.
However, all magistrates’ courts across the country will be operational.
The conference will be running under the Theme; The Administration of Judiciary Act and sustainable transformation of the judiciary, which shall be discussed by former Principal Judge James Ogoola.
