The contested Apaa land has finally been demarcated amidst arrest and protests from the locals in Apaa parish, Pabbo Sub County in Amuru district.
The contested 40 square piece of land is claimed by both Amuru and Adjumani districts.
It was demarcated by land surveyors from the Ministry of Land and Urban Development, amid complaints by some Acholi leaders that government had gone against the position agreed earlier with Prime Minister Ruhankana Rugunda.
The land in question has over the years also been claimed by the Uganda Wildlife Authority that says it is a game reserve.
Police Deputy Director Operation John Nuwagira who commanded the forces on the ground in Apaa has accused local leaders of failing to sensitise the residents on the boundary demarcation process.
He has reassured the residents that no one will be displaced by the demarcation, asking them to come out of hiding and return to their homes.
