The deputy speaker of parliament Anita Among has joined the speaker race.
She is expected to pick nomination forms from the NRM parliamentary headquarters today.
The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party has since invited its members interested in vying for the speaker of Parliament to submit applications to the party’s electoral commission for consideration starting today from 9am to 5pm.
The NRM caucus vice chairperson Herbert Kinobere yesterday confirmed that Among will be contesting in the race to replace her late boss who passed on in Seattle, US on Sunday.
The parliament director of communication and public Affirm Chris Obore last evening rubbished reports that Among had resigned from her post as deputy speaker.
Obore said the Clerk to Parliament had not received any resignation from Among adding that there is no legal requirement for her to resign if she needs to vie for position of Speaker.
The law only necessitates that cabinet members resign first.
