The African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) has awarded medals and certificates to Ugandan soldiers for their outstanding contribution to the peace and stabilization efforts in Somalia.

Soldiers from Battle Group 30, were awarded at a ceremony held in Mogadishu, presided over by the AMISOM Commander, Lt Gen Diomede Ndegeya among other senior military officers in mission.

The soldiers, deployed in September 2020 under the command of Col Jimmy Nabiyu Musoke, are due to rotate out after a year to be replaced by Battle Group 33, under Col Ezra Mwinyi Byaruhanga.

Lt. Gen. Ndegeya has applauded the soldiers for securing Lower Shabelle and Banadir regions, and courage exhibited while implementing the mission’s mandate.
