The 17 year-old DauArok, a South Sudanese refugee living in Nyumanzi settlement block D was reportedly rushed to the health facility on Monday afternoon after his condition worsened from the private clinic in which he has been receiving treatment.

The Adjumani district health officer, Ann Adunia, said they have collected a specimen from the patient and it has already been sent to Kampala for further examination.

However a health worker at Adjumani hospital who prefers anonymity disclosed that, rapid test carried out in the general hospital confirmed the patients tested positive to cholera.

The last time cholera cases were reported in Adjumani district was in 2006.

Titus Jogo, the Adjumani refugee desk officer said with the onset of the rainy season sometimes it is inevitable to receive cases of such kind of disease.

Joshua Amandu, the in-charge of Nyumanzi health center II said at the time of the admission the 17-year-old patient was passing out watery stool and he was also vomiting but his condition has fairly improved.

He urged the residents to avoid shaking of hands, desist from open defection adding that, they should wash hands after visiting the toilets.

Adjumani is a main exit and entry points for people traveling to and from South Sudan especially through Elegu border.
