Government’s request for a supplementary budget to cater for the facilitation of arbitration cases against two oil companies has hit a snag.
Attorney General, Peter Nyombi today tabled a 3.2 billion shillings budget before the Legal and Parliamentary Affairs committee, meant to defend government against Heritage Oil and Gas Ltd, as well as Tullow Uganda Ltd in London.
Nyombi explained that the monies are to facilitate lawyers’ fees and expenses of the Attorney General’s team, expressing hope that the country has high chances of winning these cases and recovering the monies through costs.
However, Ndorwa East MP, Wilfred Niwagaba says there is no justification for the figures.
Government has so far spent 14 billion shillings on the arbitration cases.
