Members of Lango Parliamentary Group are disappointed with government over a decision to exclude Akii-Bua Stadium in Lira City from the list of facilities planned to be developed to host the African Cup of Nations in 2027.

The MPs are disgruntled that they are being marginalized by the very government that has failed to put up infrastructure like roads and airports in the region which has excluded them.

They have vowed to press on and demand that the commitment which was made to parliament and CAF is honored.

Judith Alyek, the Woman MP for Kole District told journalists that according to State Minister for Sports Peter Ogwang, the stadium will not be developed, at least for now.

“Lango Parliamentary group rejects the move by the government of Uganda to maliciously exclude Akii-Bua Stadium from hosting AFCON 2027. The reasons given; lack of airport and good roads are unjustifiable since construction of roads and airports are a function of government which it failed to fulfill in Lango subregion,” said Alyek.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) awarded Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania the hosting rights for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), prompting government to draw a plan for upgrading local stadia.
