Activists want govt to double effort in promoting patient safety

Patient rights activists believe that the government still has a long way to go in addressing issues of patient safety in both public and private health facilities.
According to Uganda National Health Consumers’ Organisation (UNHCO), major challenges are still being faced in human resources for health, and empowerment of patients, among others which contribute to poor medication safety.
Mable Kukunda Musinguzi, the advocacy manager at UNHCO says poor medication safety is experienced in prescriptions and in diagnosis with a number of health workers who cannot diagnose.
“Poor medication safety is mainly in prescription, even diagnosis itself. You find that the number of health workers, some of them actually cant diagnose, according to at least some reports by the World Bank and others, The health workers are actually few, they cannot attend to a big number of patients,” Kukunda said.
