Local leaders in the West Nile region have petitioned President Yoweri Museveni to urgently intervene in the border dispute between Uganda and South Sudan.

The District LC5 Chairman, Vukoni Jimmy while presenting the Memorandum to the president Museveni at Celecelea stadium yesterday said the non-resolved problem on the boundary has led to suffering.

He said since the conflict started about five years ago, 14 people have been killed, over 500 houses burnt, animals stolen and nine people injured.

Addressing a rally at the stadium, the Museveni said efforts to resolve the matter are under way and African union has already availed the funds for the demarcation of the Uganda-south Sudan boarders.

He also pledged to persuade his South Sudanese counterpart SalvaKiir to join him for a visit to the disputed area soon.
