76% of Ugandans are against amending the constitution to lift the presidential age limit.
This is one of the findings of the 7th survey on people’s proposal to improve parliament and election in Uganda released by the African-led research Network, Afrobarometer.
The findings indicate that there is overwhelming support for improving parliament and election in Uganda.
Out of a sample size of 1,200 adults, 89% support the proposal to incriminate security agents and electoral officials who do not follow electoral laws.
Further still 84% support the need for National dialogue, 94% want candidates who present forged academic papers stopped from contesting again while 66% do not want legislators to double as ministers.
While presenting these findings, Francis Kibirige the national coordinator said that only 24% support the proposal to change constitution to accommodate presidential candidates who are above 75 years.
The survey has noted that there is overwhelming public support for reforms to improve parliament and election while the most popular proposal was reducing the size of parliament as well as launching a National dialogue .
The Survey was conducted between 26th December 2016 and 8th January 2017.
