The opposition Forum for Democratic Change has blamed the current mess in the National Resistance Movement camp on the gaps in Uganda’s constitution.
There has been growing tension within the ruling NRM party after the former speaker of parliament, Rebecca Kadaga defied the party’s decision and decided to run as an independent for the Speakership race whose election is underway.
Addressing journalists at their headquarters, the FDC deputy Secretary General Harold Kaija said the constitution that supports multi-partism also allows people to enter parliament on individual merit.
He said if a person enters parliament as an independent, his voters cannot recall them, saying the same is happening in NRM where a party member with a card is contesting as an independent and nothing can be done to her.
Kaija added that the 11th parliament members should work towards correcting this anomaly that makes some clauses of the constitution contradictory as far as multi-partisan is concerned.
