The Uganda Prisons Services is planning to free over three hundred inmates as the country hosts the Pope.
The Prisons Commissioner General Dr. Johnson Byabashaija has told KFM that they have forwarded the list to the committee in the ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs which recommends the Prerogative of mercy of inmates to the President for his approval.
He says Uganda Prisons fully embraces all activities aimed at ensuring a peaceful period during the Holy Father’s visit.
Pope Francis will visit Uganda from 27th to 29th November on his first visit to African continent.
Last month Cuba freed 3,500 prisoners when the Pope visited the country.
