Police in the Eastern district of Tororo have arrested twelve youth chairpersons over failure to pay back monies given to them under the Youth Livelihood Program.
Tororo Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Martin Orochi directed police to arrest all chairpersons of the groups that benefited from the revolving fund but have failed to refund it.
Out of 76 groups that received over 630 million in 2014, only 46 have made efforts to pay back the monies they received, yet a second batch of beneficiaries is meant to be given the same money.
Orochi said the four day-operation that started last week yielded only Shs 6.5 million from defaulters.
The district youth officer Lydia Amoit says they are under pressure from the ministry gender, Labour and Social Development to have all the funds recovered and given to second batch of 30 identified beneficiaries.
