President Yoweri Museveni is expected to award eleven women from Lango sub-region during the International Women’s Day Celebration to be held at Angwecibangi Primary School grounds in Dokolo District.
Mustafhiri Suwed, the Dokolo District Information Officer has confirmed that the women are to be awarded for fostering women emancipation in the country.
He says those to be awarded include the Late Victoria Odur wife to the Paramount Chief of Lango, posthumously for establishing a Primary School.
Also to receive a medal is the President of Mothers Union in the Anglican Church, Imat Penina Omolo who has been fighting for women’s rights at Lira Main Prison and Justice Hellen Obura who he says has been fighting for Women’s judicial freedom among others.
He says the district submitted 15 names to the awards committee chaired by Gen. Elly Tumwine but only 11 were approved.
Meanwhile, Dokolo District Women MP, Cissy Atim Ogwal, says she will use tomorrow’s event to condemn men who have been grabbing the recently distributed mosquito nets from their women and selling them for alcohol.
