A new report by Oxfam International has shown that 11 people are dying of hunger and malnutrition each minute.

This, according to experts, is way above the global Covid-19 death rate which stands at seven.

The report titled “The Hunger Virus Multiplies” authored by Oxfam International, a confederation of 20 Non-Government Organisations indicates that conflict remains the primary cause of hunger globally and about 155 million people in 55 countries live in crisis levels of food insecurity.

Oxfam Executive Director Gabriela Bucher says the worsening climate crisis has also pushed millions of people to the brink of starvation and has appealed to donor governments to immediately fully fund the United Nations humanitarian initiatives to help save lives amidst a pandemic.

The report also says that the number of people living in extreme poverty is projected to reach 745 million by the end of 2021.
