At least 10 people are confirmed to have died while 25 others have sustained serious injuries in a road crash that occurred today at Kiganda along Kyarurangira-Isingiro road on Wednesday afternoon.

Micheal Kananura the traffic police directorate spokesperson says the crash involved a Canter Lorry registration number UAP 559X.

“The territorial traffic police in Rakai, on the 26-03-2024 at around 01:30 pm, recorded a single at Kiganda along Kyalulangira-Isingiro Road,” he noted

He says preliminary investigations indicate that the driver who is currently on the run was heading towards Isingiro when lost control of the vehicle and it overturned killing ten passengers instantly.

Kananura says the bodies of the deceased have been transported to Kyalulangira H/C III for post-mortem examination, while some of the victims have been referred to Rakia Hospital for treatment.

He urges motorists and all road users to be cautious, especially as the Easter festivities fast approach.
