UPDF deployment in S. Sudan inevitable, Museveni

Forces in Somalia

The UPDF deployment in South Sudan was inevitable,  according to President Yoweri Museveni.

He says the UPDF involvement in the South Sudan conflict was necessary to safeguard Uganda’s economic interest.

Several questions have been raised especially on the objective of UPDF deployment in South Sudan.

While officiating at the liberation day celebration in Mayuge district yesterday, the president said South Sudan has is one of the biggest destinations for Uganda’s  export, so instability there was likely to disrupt Uganda’s steady growth.

He explained that the contaversial deployment was the only remedy to the serious economic hitch Uganda was likely to suffer.

These remarks comes amid reports that the UPDF troops are not only on a mission to evacuate Ugandan citizens but that they are also involved in the actual fighting against rebels.
