The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC)says it registered great success in the recent simcard verification exercise.
A number of phone numbers which had not been verified by the National Identification Registration Authority were disconnected by the telecom companies at the end of last month.
Now the Commission’s Corporate Affairs Director Fred Otunnu tells KFM that the exercise registered over 98% success rate.
He adds that simcard registration and verification is an ongoing process, urging those whose cards were disconnected to ensure they go through the laid out process.
President Yoweri Museveni extended the SIM-card registration deadline from May 19 to August 2017 following an outcry from some Members of Parliament and the public.
