Tycoon loses land title over fraud

Government has ordered the cancellation of a land title belonging to John Sebalamu a city businessman over fraud.

The directive by Betty Amongi, the Minister for Lands Housing and Urban Development comes following revelations that Capital Estates Limited, a company owned by John Sebalamu acquired the title from former minister Mayanja Nkangi in a record time of less than an hour.

Parliament’s Committee on Natural Resources unearthed the fraud while tracking illegal sand mining in Lwera wetlands, in Kalungu district.

The minister while appearing before the same committee said that the revelation was a true manifestation of fraud and immediate action had to be taken.

Government recently announced a massive cancellation of all land titles in wetlands but several businessmen and high profile politicians continue to possess such titles and vast land.
