South Sudan conflict effects only short term

South Sudan new

The negative impact of the South Sudan conflict on business in Uganda should be considered a short term problem.

Since fighting erupted in South Sudan on 15th December, last year, Ugandan traders have been hardest hit as a result of the disruption of a ready and profitable market.

Recent developments have also led to fears of reprisal attacks by rebel forces on Ugandan traders who may be viewed as aggressors after parliament endorsed the deployment of UPDF troops in South Sudan to protect the country’s strategic interests.

However, political analyst Julius Lebo says much as these fears are genuine, the disruption of business should not be viewed as a long term problem.
